Who’s ready to party? Or, if you’re like me, who’s ready for some munchies that you can keep all to yourself? (No judgement from me!)
This party mix was inspired by the Crispix Mix Original Recipe and my Grandma Burgess’ party mix, which was always around when we came to visit. They both manage to disappear rather quickly, so a double batch isn’t necessarily out of the question.
This version gets an extra kick from the cayenne and extra Worcestershire sauce. Feel free to substitute cheese crackers or pretzels for the nuts if you’re nut-free (or add them to the recipe and increase the amount of sauce accordingly).
Enjoy!
Spicy Cajun Party Mix
Servings: About 7 cups
Ingredients
- 6 cups rice or corn cereal (squares or hexagons, any brand)
- 3/4 cup salted peanuts
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- Juice from 1 large lemon (about 4 tsp)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 tsp cayenne powder
- 1/4 tsp sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 275°F
- Spread cereal and peanuts onto 1-2 baking sheets (make sure the baking sheets have a rim, or you can use a 13 x 9 in baking pan)
- Stir together remaining ingredients in a 1 cup measuring cup (or small bowl), then pour over the cereal and peanut mixture
- Stir gently but thoroughly, until all of the mixture is coated in the sauce
- Bake for 45 min, stirring every 10-15 minutes (you’ll find that the cereal will be pretty soggy until the very end of the baking time)
- Remove from the oven when the cereal is lightly toasted and crunchy. Cool completely
- Can be stored in a zip-top bag or sealed container for up to 1 week (if it lasts that long)
